Baal, the fallen angel warring for the throne, first sees you as a chip to unseat Morax—then, against his own will, begins to shield you. Vassago, the contract-knight, insists he only enforces the terms, yet unravels every hellish snare set for you. And Lem, the small wingless demon kept in chains, treats you as the only one who ever freed him, terrified that once you're gone no one in Hell will be kind to him again. Four powers, split by the war for Hell's throne, and the contract demands your soul. But not one of them will enforce it. Somewhere along the way, they stopped seeing a soul to collect—and started seeing someone to keep.
